Henri Cartier-Bresson was born in August 22nd, 1908. He went to Cambridge University to major in literature. In 1937, after assisting Jean Renoir in cinematography, he created his own documentary called Return to Life. He started working French underground, after being imprisoned by Germans, which kick started his photography career. In 1947 he help to found the Magnum agency with David Seymour, Robert Capa, and George Rodger. He then spend a total of twenty years traveling the world. Throughout the course of his life, he received the American Society of Magazine Photographers, Prix de la Société Française de Photographie and the Overseas Press Club Award four times.
Henri Cartier-Bresson played a major role in establishing photojournalism as an art. His photos were candid, and showed historic events, along with many random shots. His photos spread light on cultures that didn't have the chance to do it themselves.
